In this context, the   <\/span><a style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align);\" href=\"https:\/\/csr-tools.com\/en\/csrd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)<\/a><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\"> plays a decisive role by encouraging companies to make their sustainability practices transparent. <\/span> <\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); color: var(--ast-global-color-3); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\">But how well prepared are companies for these requirements and what challenges and opportunities arise from the new regulations? The biggest concern for those responsible for finance, sustainability and compliance is the <b>high volume of regulations<\/b>. This is perceived as the main burden, mainly because it is often accompanied by the need to comply with <b>multiple global sustainability standards<\/b> (e.g. GRI, IFRS). In addition, <b>obtaining the data<\/b> for specific data points is a challenge.     <\/p><p>Quality initiatives, <b>unclear regulations<\/b> and the need for <b>third-party data verification<\/b> make reporting even more difficult. <b>A lack of technology<\/b> and the challenges posed by the need to <b>coordinate different teams <\/b>are further hurdles that create additional difficulties for companies in the context of CSRD compliance. This complexity illustrates how comprehensive the CSRD requirements are and how important careful planning and implementation is for companies. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-91839e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"91839e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Challenges in obtaining data for the CSRD report<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d5ba7d7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d5ba7d7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Although 98% of sustainability managers are confident about their <span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3); font-size: 1rem;\">data quality<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">  the Workiva survey reveals significant challenges with regard to the data associated with the CSRD requirements. After all, <a href=\"https:\/\/csr-tools.com\/en\/blog-en\/esrs-data-points-and-other-csrd-aids\/\">EFRAG&#8217;s list<\/a> includes over 1,100 data points.   <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">83% of respondents consider the collection of specific data to meet CSRD requirements to be a difficult task for their organization. Adapting ESG and sustainability reporting processes to new regulations is seen as challenging by 87%, and 79% find verifying this data within their reporting processes problematic.   <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">In addition, 77% of practitioners find it difficult to obtain third-party assurance in order to meet CSRD requirements. The survey also highlights that 81% of respondents find collaboration between the different departments and teams involved in ESG and sustainability reporting challenging.   <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">These survey results from the Workiva ESG study underline the complexity and the extensive efforts that organizations must make to comply with the new legal requirements. In any case, it is advisable to take an early look at what data the company actually has to report. This statement can only be made after <a href=\"https:\/\/csr-tools.com\/en\/materiality-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the double materiality assessment has been carried out<\/a>.  <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9561b32 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9561b32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Opportunities for sustainability reporting<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dd4b39d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dd4b39d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>According to the study, sustainability reporting offers companies considerable opportunities:<\/p><ul><li><b>Competitive differentiation<\/b>: An overwhelming majority of 88% of professionals agree that a strong ESG report gives their organizations a <b>competitive advantage<\/b>. This belief is reinforced by the fact that 89% of companies say they prioritize ESG reporting more than in previous years. <\/li><li><b>Attractiveness for investors<\/b>: This strategic prioritization is also reflected in <span style=\"font-style: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">capital market attractiveness<\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">  This is particularly the case for companies planning an IPO. Here, 46% of companies planning an IPO see a clear advantage in strong ESG reporting compared to only 37% of privately held companies not planning an IPO. This data underlines how important it is for investors that companies can provide reliable and consistent ESG reports.  <\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-style: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\"><b>Increased value and better decisions <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5); color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">8 out of 10 respondents <\/span>agree that integrated financial and ESG\/sustainability data enables better decision-making and has a positive impact on a company&#8217;s long-term value creation.<\/li><li><span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\"><b>Improving corporate reputation<\/b>: Effective CSRD reporting can improve the perception of a company by external stakeholders such as customers, potential employees and the general public. Companies that communicate their commitments to sustainability and social responsibility transparently can significantly increase their brand strength and reputation. <br><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--ast-global-color-5);\"><b>Risk management<\/b>: Sustainability reporting, or the upstream <a href=\"https:\/\/csr-tools.com\/en\/blog-en\/double-materiality-double-materiality-explained-simply\/\">double materiality assessment<\/a>, enables companies to better identify and manage risks, particularly those related to environmental issues, social conditions and corporate governance. The number of respondents who recognize the importance of technology has increased compared to the previous year&#8217;s survey, indicating a growing recognition of technology requirements in ESG. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These points make it clear that companies are increasingly investing in technologies that not only support compliance, but also enable more efficient data analysis and processing, which in turn leads to more informed strategic decisions.
